The Cyprus Post celebrated World Post Day with an event held on Saturday, 10 October, at the Zygi Fishing Shelter. The event was honoured by the presence of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Ms. Evanthia Tsolaki, who in her address highlighted the importance and adaptability of the postal network. She referred to this year’s theme of the Universal Postal Union, “A postal network, endless possibilities”, emphasising that a key priority of the Ministry’s policy is the continuous support of the postal system and the safeguarding of citizens’ immediate, reliable and uninterrupted access to its services.
The Minister stressed that every citizen, in every corner of Cyprus – from major urban centres to the most remote mountain communities – is entitled to modern, high‑quality and accessible postal services.
In his address, the Director of Cyprus Post, Pavlos Pavlidis, presented the modernisation initiatives implemented in recent years, as well as the new actions planned for the future.
As part of the event, students who excelled in the 55th International Letter‑Writing Competition for Young People were honoured. This year’s theme was: “Write a letter to a friend about why human contact is important in a digital world.”
The event was musically enriched by a brass ensemble of the Cyprus Youth Symphony Orchestra, adding a distinctive and celebratory character to the occasion.
