World Post Day 2019 Celebrations
On Monday, October 14, 2019, on the occasion of World Post Day, which is celebrated every year on October 9, Cyprus Post organized an event in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Communications and Works, Mrs. Vassiliki Anastasσiadou, as well as other officials, guests, employees and retired employees of the Cyprus Post.
In their speeches, the Minister as well as the Director of the Cyprus Post referred to the importance of the day as well as to the goals and prospects of the postal organizations which require the continuous upgrading of the services offered to ensure social and economic development.
During the event, students of Primary and Secondary Education were awarded their prizes, for winning the top ten positions in the international letter writing competition, organized each year by the Universal Postal Union, with a different theme. This year's theme was "Write a Letter to Your Hero."
The winner of the competition, was Styliana Pattichi, a Grade 6 student at Lythrodontas Elementary School, who kindly donated a significant portion of her prize money to the "Cyprus Volunteer Doctors".
A team of postal workers, who recently participated in the well-known television show "The Weakest Link", donated the money to the Cyprus Cancer Society and Friends (PASYKAF).
Finally, Mr. Nikos Ragos, a retired teacher, former President of the Cyprus Philatelic Society, was also honored for his long-standing contribution to the promotion of Philatelism in schools as well as the Cyprus postage stamp in Cyprus and abroad.
