Celebration on the occasion of the World Post Day

21/10/2018

On Friday, 19th October 2018, on the occassion of the World Post Day celebrated on 9th October every year, Cyprus Post held an event in the presence of the Minister of Transport, Communication and Works Mrs Vassiliki Anastassiadou, other guests as well as employees and retired employees of Cyprus Post.

In their addresses, the Minister and the Director of Cyprus Post stressed the importance of this celebration as well as the goals and the prospects of Cyprus Post in relation to the developments in the postal market worldwide. The rapidly changing environment make the changes in its legal and the operational framework a necessity in order to secure its financial viability, its sustainability as well as the continuous upgrade of the services offered to the society and the businesses of the island.

During the event, the prizes were awarded to the students of Elementary and Secondary schools that won the first 10 positions in the letter writing competition organised by the Universal Postal Union.

This year, Cyprus's participation with Hara Foka was an immense success as Hara won the first prize internationally among more than one million students. This is a great honour for her, her family, her school and Cyprus.  The theme of the competition was "Imagine yourself as a letter travelling in time...".  Hara, despite her young age,  wrote with great empathy and sensitivity about the humanitarian issue of the refugees who are forced to flee their countries in order to survive the war and make a new and more peaceful beginning in a foreign country.
