The Red Cross officially began operating in Cyprus in 1950, as a Branch of the British Red Cross. After the proclamation of Cyprus as an independent state, it was established by virtue of the Cyprus Red Cross Law of 1967 (39/1967) under the name "Cyprus Red Cross". The Law recognizes the Cyprus Red Cross as a Voluntary Aid Body, auxiliary to public authorities for the purposes of the Geneva Conventions. Guided by the seven Fundamental Principles of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement - Humanity, Impartiality, Neutrality, Independence, Voluntary Service, Unity and Universality - it is actively involved in the areas of social welfare, education, youth, psychosocial support, crisis management, meeting the needs of enclaved persons, restoring family ties and first aid. With a dynamic network of staff and volunteers, the Cyprus Red Cross continues to be a beacon of solidarity, strengthening the resilience of Cypriot society and promoting the values ​​of contribution and hope.
