Commandaria is a treasure of the Cypriot land, the first and only Cypriot wine with a Protected Designation of Origin, considered to be one of the oldest in the world. A wine with a long history and tradition, which this year completes 800 years since its great award event, with the first prize in the International Wine Competition "La Bataille des Vins", held in 1224, under the high patronage of King Philippe of France. Although there are many references in ancient texts, it was the Templar Knights who started the systematic production of this famous drink during the Middle Ages. Its production continues today, in the 14 Commandaria villages, adding yet another excellent product to the culinary wealth of Cyprus, which pleasantly surprises those who taste it.
