The NATURA 2000 network is a wide European Network of protected natural areas for flora, fauna, birds and habitats.
The aim of the network is to ensure the long-term survival of Europe's most valuable and endangered species and habitats.
The sites for the NATURA 2000 network are selected by the Member States in cooperation with the European Commission.
The selected areas are officially recognized by the committee as "Places of Community Importance". This process confirms the status of the sites and strengthens the obligations of protecting them.
The "Places of Community Importance" together with the "Special Protection Areas" for the birds constitute the NATURA 2000 Network.
The commemorative flyer with the four stamps illustrates the lake of Oroklini with the Flamingos, Tripilos in the forest of Paphos with the Agrino, Akamas with the snow crane and sea area with Posidonia oceanica and Caretta Caretta turtle.
